What is a Design Gift?

 It is our principal motivational design, one of seven, God the Father gave us at birth.  Although we are born from two people and carry their DNA, we also carry God’s DNA, His image, and He designed us for a particular purpose with a particular set of characteristics that will enable us to unfold His design of us.

God is a Designer– Our design is part of the evidence and part of the way we discover the deeper truths.  Our own design begins as a puzzle and a quest for understanding, and we know that the questions of “Who am I?” and “What is my purpose?” burn deeply in us all. 

We are hungry to know our identities and for them to be affirmed. We are uniquely made, and we are meant to find our purpose.  When we begin to recognize our design it is liberating, there is freedom to be who we were designed to be. 

It is important to come into alignment with both our design and the Designer. 

Out of love of God and our desire to serve our creator we should operate according to our design. In this way, we honour the One who designed us. He has already said that it was good the way He created us. That word there “good” means doing what it was designed and created to do. Functioning the way, it was supposed to. Essentially fitting into the plan of God.

Why is it important to know your personal UR Design?

Many of us have done personality tests (personality is traits that distinguish certain qualities of a person. They’re what we outwardly observe when interacting with someone). to determine how we function in the natural to be able to better understand ourselves and others and how we can work in unity in healthy relationships.

We want to know who we are and where we belong.  We want to be validated in our pursuits and to know that we are serving our intended purposes.  Most of us want to know that, and to know that God created us with a specific birthright in mind is like opening a treasure that confirms something our spirit has been seeking and yet also has known.  It settles things.  It confirms deeply.  It brings peace.

We all have a purpose according to our design.

Some of the ways that we find that we are the same with some people and unique from others is important. We need to look at these and determines if there are patterns.

Think of the animal kingdom. God created many different types of animals which can be grouped by certain characteristics; Birds, mammals, insects, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. They all have similar characteristics that make up their design within these groups. Yet, within that there is still such a set of uniqueness that sets apart another grouping.

For instance, within the main group of Mammals is another group called Cats, in the cat family there is a Specie called Tigers and in the Tiger specie there is a sub species of tiger called the Indo- Chinese tiger based on where the tiger can be found and its unique characteristics.

 We understand, connect and communicate with others in a greater way when we can appreciate the way they were uniquely designed.

Things that can seemingly shift your UR Design.

Your original UR Design can be deeply wounded or twisted early on in life. There are individuals who generationally have never been allowed to have an identity.  The basic blessings, nurturing and guidance were withheld from them early in life. They were told to conform to the patterns around them and not to seek their individual UR design. Many adults later in life begin an identity quest, simply because they were never encouraged to discover and unpack the treasures given to them and that reside within themselves.

They answer the questions about themselves based on what they think other people expect to hear or to protect their wounded child within. This false identity hinders them from being their authentic self and can many times create an identity deficit.

There are multiple factors that can adjust or make it difficult to determine your orignal UR design.

• Birth Order
• Trauma
• Lack of Nurturing or love
• Manipulation and Controlling parenting
• Certain circumstances and situations- abandonment, loss,

Birth order: everyone recognizes that birth order affects us, as would being an only child or even the number of siblings. A first born carries some of the characteristics of designer such as a drive for excellence and seeing things as more black and white. A first born designer would have even more pronounced characteristics.

Parents: one’s parents design strongly affect us, as parents often try to train their children according to how they see the world. A helper parent would instill the importance of serving as a heart parent would be cautious of the feelings of others. Sometimes we can identify with what we are taught as being who we are. It is helpful to ask parents what we were like as children. Sometimes that is the best picture.

Culture: Our culture influences us by telling us what our roles should be, and what it appreciates. For instance, in our American culture, helpers do not get much respect. A male heart might learn to hide his nature because he was considered to be overly sensitive.

 Gender: Your design manifest in different ways according to gender. A female leader might be “softer” than her male leader counterpart. A male heart might seem “tougher” than a female heart. There are ways that each gender might present as a particular design that are different.

And many other things such as whether we are more right brained than left, more aggressive or passive, extroverted or introverted, to name a few.

It is also important to understand that there are multiple other areas that are impacted and need self-discovery as well.

UR Designed is based on the premise that we are all uniquely designed by one Designer.

Finding yourself is not really how it works. This isn’t like lost and found. You were never lost. Your true original self has always been there, buried under cultural conditioning, other people’s opinions, and inaccurate conclusions that you have made as a child that are now your core beliefs about who your are. Not to mention the wounded and twisted aspects.

This is all actually about returning to the real you. An act of unlearning, discovering and remembering who you were before the world got a hold of you. UR Design is all about you being you. Be-U- Ti -full

The UR Designed Motivational Design (URDMD) of each person are unique to them and though we carry all seven in our spirit and are required to express each in a balanced manner.  We have one primary and a secondary motivational design that works together and is prominent. These show up in our behaviour patterns. Your design may be leader, and you are often the one who is in charge and pushing to complete the task, but as you mature you will provide and help, and show heart. It is just that your strongest motivation will be that of leader. As you engage, acknowledge, legitimatize, nurture, instruct and bless your spirit you will recognize the need for all seven.

All 7 gifts are recognizable because they have certain characteristics.  Everyone was designed with one of these as the primary way they view things, although we are to grow and mature in all aspects.  In other words, our gift may be Leader and we are often the one who is in charge and pushing to complete the task, but it doesn’t mean that we should not give or serve or show mercy.  It is just that our strongest motivation will be that of Leader, but we recognize the need for all seven

• Unforgiving. Not willing to overlook the failures and weaknesses of others.

 • Bitterness. Enduring battlefield for the prophet. Can have an unforgiving spirit that is destructive.

 • Non-relational. Tends to value principles and truth as more important than relationships.

 • Compromise. Settling for his agenda instead of God’s agenda.

• Always looking for more things to do.

Major issues- Exploitation = Use (a situation or person) in an unfair or selfish way. Overwork or underpay.

Mature Leader – High moral integrity, shares authority & leadership with others. Life giving; Doesn’t push people beyond their limits; Nurtures.

• Impurity. Desire for intimacy and physical touch may lead to impurity.
• Enabling. Wants to protect others from pain.
• Compromise. Willing to live with mixture of holy and unholy without calling people to do what is right.
• Non-confrontational. May tolerate abuse and exploitation because he is willing to allow injustice to continue.

Major Issues with Stubbornness, futility (seeing no results)

Legitimacy Lie – When I have earned God’s or people’s favor through self-sacrifice.

Mature Heart – God pleasing, free from fear of man. Knows the heart of God. True empathy. Observes appropriate boundaries. Sanctifies the environment with a pure presence.

Helper ( Orange)

Primary Motivation: Authority

Behavioral Characteristics: Diligent, no enemies, joyous, helpful, alert, high spiritual authority, hospitable, low self image, impeccably honest, team player, loyal, well liked,

1. Sees external needs and makes an effort to meet them
2. Concerned about the comfort of others
3. Obedience is the free money of helper
4. Gets over-busy, can’t say no easily to people
5. Over apologizes

8. Loyal – fierce anger when close friends or family are hurt (Not necessarily angry when they are hurt)
9. Very sentimental, saves and keeps stuff (can’t always find the stuff)

• Enabling. Does a task instead of teaching others to do it and releasing it.

•Mindset of victimization, feeling like a victim rather than a victor.

Major Issues with self-worth. Doesn’t see his innate value and doesn’t believe God’s truth about himself or his call

Legitimacy Lie – I am legitimate when I build a platform of success under others.

Mature Helper– God pleaser, not man pleaser. God can trust the helper with unparalleled spiritual authority. Walks in true humility, no guile, free to admit mistakes.

Mature Encourager – Mobilizes, influences, and inspires people to reach their full potential. God pleaser. Life-giving relationships earned authority in persevering and for embracing pain.
