Everything in this world is constantly changing, transitioning and transforming.
The bud becomes the flower, the acorn becomes the oak, the embryo becomes the baby all set into motion by the Creator of life. Change is external and is something that happens to people, it takes place outside the individual, whether they instigate it or not. Change is an act or process through which something becomes different, altered, adjusted, adapted, modified and or converted.
“Transition” is what a person experiences internally: it’s what happens in a person’s mind as they go through change. Change can seem to happen very quickly, while transition usually occurs more slowly and sometimes takes time to adjust to.
How we perceive the change happening to us can determine how we navigate the transition. Transition times in life are a period of growth when we redefine and make adjustments necessary for us to move forward. During these times Creator God gives us new focus and direction. He teaches us about Himself in a new way and His ways in times of change.
A transition can come with a broad spectrum of many feelings and emotions. Excitement, hope, confusion, frustration, uncertainty, impatience, loss, fear and or anger are only a few that many people experience. Resisting change can make the transition more difficult and prolong the transformation process, where the acceptance of approaching a major life transition, a key element may be using transitional strategies to deal with any overpowering, life-limiting feelings.
Transformation involves transitions
Transitions, for the most part, are just minor adjustments in your life that help to guide you to where you need to be. Transition in someone’s life should lead them to something better, something that gives them more purpose, wisdom, and freedom. Gaining and or losing can set you up for a transformation. Transformation is the result of a series of dramatic transitional changes because transformation changes everything, not just one thing. Take a caterpillar that is metamorphosing into a butterfly. The caterpillar may not understand what is happening during the stages of transition, but it yields to the process and just transforms into something more. When you transition well by embracing and co-operating during the transition you will see transformation occur.
I have a love for bridges because they have such a very significant meaning. A bridge is a structure built to span a physical obstacle, such as a body of water, valley, or road, without closing the way underneath. It is constructed for the purpose of providing safe passage over the obstacle, usually something that can be detrimental to cross otherwise.
Creator God bridges the past with the present and the future for those that are seeking His guidance during times and seasons of transition. He is the Master of helping his children to have peace in crossing over.
The space and time of transition can many times feel like a flying trapeze act where a performer, or “flyer,” grabs the trapeze bar and jumps off a high platform, this represents the moment of growth that creates a swing of momentum forward. The performer then gets ready to release the bar (1. letting go) and there is a moment when he is not holding anything. This is the moment of transition (2. neutral zone). Where you let go of everything you once knew and trusted and you become suspended until you can grab a hold of what you trust is simultaneously traveling towards you with precision timing. (3. embrace a new beginning)
Major life transitions
Often, major life transitions can be associated with uncertainty. The individual undergoing them can feel highly disoriented.
We tend as the human species to keep our focus on the familiar. We talk about this as a journey through a transitional tunnel. When you first enter the tunnel, you can see the light where you came from. As you keep moving forward you come to a place where you can’t see the light where you came from nor the light ahead on the other side and in this place of darkness fear may begin to creep in. This is where you must have faith and overcome your desire to turn back to what you had before. The answer is to keep doing what you have been doing to get to this place. Keep moving forward until you see the light peeking through the doorway to the other side. Trust that this is only a tunnel and the light is also on the other side. When you come through the new door you will feel safe once more.
Give yourself grace in the process and remember that your prior frame of reference has difficulty comprehending the new experience that you are transitioning to. Learning what type and giving a name to your transition and the feelings associated, can help you to understand how to navigate for the better.
According to some of the thought leaders in life transitions, there are four categories we can put transitions into.
- anticipated transitions include things that we expect to occur. Often these transitions are planned and believed to be part of the natural life cycle. Examples of this type of transition are graduating from school, finding a job, getting married, having children and retirement
- unanticipated transitions, are events that aren’t predicted and do not follow any particular timeline in an adult’s life. Examples may include serious personal illness, having a car accident that causes you to be unable to work or the downsizing of a company resulting in job loss. break in a relationship due to betrayal, resulting in the closure of a relationship or a divorce, major illness or death of a loved one, major disruptions in family relationships
- non-event transitions are those changes we expect to occur but do not- Examples include, not having children when you had always expected to become a parent or expecting to be able to retire at sixty only to realize that you are unable due to personal finances.
- sleeper transitions occur gradually and we may not even be aware of they are happening. becoming gradually addicted to drugs or alcohol, a health issue that worsens over time, a slow decline and distancing in an important relationship, or outgrowing the challenges and responsibilities of a job, and burnout, whether in career or personal life

What are RYMMz transition strategies?
Transition strategies are techniques used to support individuals. They are helpful to prepare yourself before a transition, during a transition, and/or after a transition. Here are a few to assist you.
Remember- don’t forget – your victories and accomplished goals of the past are a map and motivation for your future. Share your Glory stories, write down your testimony and tell others about it. Clarify daily where you were, where you are, where you are going. Review your journal as a reminder.
Hope for the future – keep your eye on the prize – know your desired outcome. When going through childbirth, transition is the most difficult time of labour. This is the time when the woman feels, “I cannot go any further!” Only the vision of the child to come causes the endurance and perseverance toward the ultimate goal of a lineage and legacy being secured. You will need to embrace what the process of transition is bringing your way. The hope of this will bring you motivation to continue when it becomes difficult work and hard to carry on forward. Many people need to see visuals to help during times of transition.
Apply your skills, experience, and knowledge you learned through RYMMz. Repeat these if you feel like you are slipping back into familiar old patterns.
